Dear all,
I've searched the dumps and found similiar questions but none that will help me. My tape drive is not write protected yet I still get the error that ican not open to perform a dump. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I used to get the same errors. Make sure that there are no stale dump, tar, mt processes(or any other processes that use the tape drive) left running. Maybe you can write a script to kill off any of these processes before attempting another dump. Hope that helps.
