Hello everyone,

I am a beginner Unix guy. I have HP-UX on an HP 735/125. Every time this machine boots, it has a 'file repair' problem. Am I shutting this system down incorrectly? At what point do I shut the power off (login screen?) Should I run a command (shutdown notifies all users then goes back to login screen.)

Please help.

Thanks.

What version of HPUX? If I understand correctly, when you type shutdown the system doesn't shut down? Are you getting any messages in your syslog? Have you tried posting this question in the HP-UX forum?

shutdown -h now

Should shutdown your system, maybe the command you're issuing at the moment is *rebooting* your system rather than halting it.

You should see a "Ok to switch off" message when it's ok to turn the power off. Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.
