Can not see artwork

I have a CD that was sent to me by a sign Company to do some work for them the files show they are Adobe Illustrator artwork 11. When I try and open them in CS, it shows a blank page. If I place then there are two boxes but no graphics. If I open them with lets say Photoshop, paint shop pro or the likes. I can see the graphic. Why won't they open in the vector format???

I can select all, copy and paste into MS publisher and it will show up and then I can copy it and paste it into CS and it will be in vector form.

I do not understand this one at all.

First try moving the files from the cd onto your computer. Then try using the Open command on the file menu for illustrator. Then go to view menu and select "show transparency grid". That's in case stuff is white and you have whits as your background. Then try select all and see if you get the blue outlines showing data.

You might also try view menu/fit in window if the thing is big, or zoom out a lot in case the artwork is off the screen somehow.

None of that works.

when I open one of the files, I can select all,copy, and paste it right back into the file that was opened and it will paste right into it and it is suppose to???

Its a big baffle to my small mind.

Do you know what color is used? Could it just be blank paths. Another possibility is that it could be paths exported from photoshop - which just gives blank paths but has the ai extension. You have to select all to see the paths exported from photoshop.

One trick is to selct all and apply a light stroke to everything so you can see the work - easiest to do on a new layer so it can be ditched easily later.
