I am trying to link to a table in an accounting database and I have never had this problem before. I go to "File", "Get External Data" and select "Link Tables". Here I go to "Files of Type" and select "ODBC Databases" in the dropdown. Usually it then opens a "select data source" window which allows me to pick the tab that says "Machine Data Source" Now, however, as soon as I choose "ODBC Databases" the window closes.

Any thoughts?

It sounds like an installation corruption rather than a problem with the database (unless this is happening with just one database...?).

I'd try a Detect and Repair on your Office installation or possibly reinstall from disc.

Ed Metcalfe.

Sometimes other applications, such as something you may have recently installed, will install their own version of the odbc dlls, and it can cause this. I had a similar thing happen after installing Oracle software.
