Can not print documents made before instaliing HP 970

We have just installed a HP 970 using the USB connection. Printing documents made before installing the 970 cause Office 2000 to crash out with a winword error. Any new documents that have been made after the installation of the 970 print ok. I have applied SR-1 and tried adjusting the margins for some of the old documents, giving at least 1" all around. None of that seemed to help. Any advice?
