Can not make changes in DB if someone else is in the DB

I have admin rights. When I log in, if someone else is in the database, I only have read only rights. So I can not make any changes. How can I still make changes if someone else is in the database? THANKS!

I think the usual way is to split the db into a front end and a back end.
