I recently copied my entire harddrive to a brand new drive using Drive Image 7 by Symantec/PowerQuest. When I installed my new cloned drive and powered up my PC, Windows booted fine. But after I press ctrl+alt+del and type in my login and password, the press ctrl+alt+del screen pops up again. It does this everytime I try to login. I am unable to login to windows using safe mode also. And yes I am 100% sure that I am using the correct password. It is a networked PC and I have several passwords, but none of them work.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

More a software problem here I think. Are you running XP, 2k (NT)? Is the network a domain? Did you use sysprep or other tool to change your 'SID'? If domain, have you tried logging on locally and using network logon? What exactly happens? You have prompt to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del. You do this and get a logon screen. Enter user name and password, and it just returns the Ctrl+Alt+Del prompt? Nothing else - no other messages? After you did the copy, did you ever boot the machine with original and new drive both connected? If you did, try wiping the new drive and doing the copy again. Make sure the new drive is the only drive in the machine the first time you boot from it.

Another problem you might have is your old hdd was a different type and size then your new one.
When you try to loggin your system is looking for the older hdd partition and not the newer one ( in size ) so it hangs. Run recovery off the cd and it should fix your problems.
Have seen this many times in the past and can be a real pain at times because of new hdd's being used and the system looking for info from the old one ( there is one file that cause's most of this but I can't think of the name of it right now ( holds part of the system conf data ))
