Hi,

I have windows XP professional installed on my system. Got a strange issue. I have an onboard sound port on my mother board and an external sound card (Creative Sound Blaster). I disabled the onboard sound port and installed the drivers for Creative. Things were working fine till one day I had to reformat my HDD and had to change RAM (as the RAM was not working fine).

This time after installing the drivers for Creative sound card, sound icon can be seen on the system tray and also when I play the music, it plays. But sound does not come out of the speaker. I tried it with different set of speakers but the issue persists. I tried enabling the on-board sound port and disabled the external sound card, but the issue persists. I tried updating the sound drivers but the same issue happens every time. All the required updates has been done but the issue still persists.

I would appreciate any possible resolutions for this issue.

Thanks in advance.

are there any exclamation marks to be seen in the devicemanager? IRQ conflicts,...

rgds,

any time i have had this problem it has been down to DX or sound card drivers..as you have 2 sound cards unlikely to be both drivers faulty...run dxdiag via start\run and see what happens also what happens if you play a music cd and plug the speakers into the headset on the cd player?
