Can not get PIX-506E to work with Verizon FIOS connection & PPPoE

Hello all,

I have Verizon FIOS in my house. I am playing around with my PIX-506E, trying to get it to work with the FIOS connection. I know FIOS uses PPPoE. I have the correct username & password - and have verified this by setting up a Linksys Router (and getting online, etc).

On the PIX, I think I've setup everything correctly - here are the main config lines (I've also attached the full config):

As you can see, I've even allowed everything IP to enter in, just to rule out that case. I even set the MTU to 1492 from 1500 thinking it *might* have something to do with it.

To make things even more confusing, I find that it will sometimes pull an IP from Verizon (and it seems to be an IP from the block I usually get, 71.x.x.x) ... then , after a couple of min, the IP disappears. When it does have an IP, I still cannot get to the outside world.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience setting this up?

You need to check the logs. Are you sure you need to use PAP for the authentication?

reconnect it and check the logs.

I have verizon FIOS as well and i have that same entry in mine and it works

vpdn group pppoe_group ppp authentication pap

mine is a 501 so i dont know if that matters.
 
Hey guys - thanks for the responses. So, after taking Super's suggestion I started to just pull my hair out further.

Everything seemed to be just fine - I was getting error messages in the logs but they were along the lines of null communication with the ISP.

I then decided to just change the cable in the off chance it might be bad.

It turned out to be a bad cable. :)

everything works now! Thanks again guys ...
