Can not create web project on server

When i try to create a new web project on a server called pe-sqlsvr and I get to the part where the server asks if I want to create a new web application or connect to an existing one I choose connect to an existing one. I am then asked for a username and password that is similar to my domain name and pw. This never works. On checking IIS on the server "Anonomous" login is enabled so why am I getting all of this?

It turns out that i dont have sufficient permissions to connect to the server in question. This was discovered when an administrator came along and tried his login instead - this worked fine. No idea what these permissions might be so ideas welcome.
