CR10 on Oracle 91 with Native oracle.

I have just acquired a new laptop and loaded CR10.

I can connect to Oracle database using Sql Navigator with no problem so I know the tns names added to my PC work.
I have a local database on PC and can run both Crystal and SQL Navigator against this.

However, as soon as I try to get Crystal to connect to the remote Oracle servers I get a TNS Listener error. But SQL navigator which is using same TNSName connection is fine.

My old laptop which has the same TNSname connects fine with Crystal.

Any ideas as to what setting in Crystal (or network configuration) on my new laptop is causing me problems. I have checked that all my settings in File-> Options are the same for both installations of Crystal.

Thanks

Ian

You probably have more than one TNSNAMES file on the laptop, do a search and make sure they're the same or rename all others.

Hi,
As synapse notes, the likely cause is multiple tnsnames.ora files, but DNS resolution could also be a factor if you specify the Oracle Hosts by name instead of IP address..Be sure the new laptop can 'see' the Oracle servers..

From a command Prompt do a

tnsping tnsname_entry

to be sure the listener is being found - it will also tell you which config file and directory is used to resolve the tnsname entry..

Thank you for the feed back.

It turned out to be a problem in the SQLNET.ora file. It should not have any settings, but had been left with the local server as default.

Still not sure why SQL Navigator could ignore this file setting, but Crystal would not.

Thanks again.
