I have just set up my first Apache Web server on a Sun Solaris work station. I am able to access the document root directory from a web browser, but I can not access any directories below the document root directory.

Could some one please help me in configuring this server so I can access files in subdirectories below the document root directory.

My document root directory is /d01/apache/htdocs/

I currently would like for the web browser to access files in /d01/apache/htdocs/music_dir/ and subdirectories.

I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks

I don't think that this is an apache problem since the default behavior is to give the same attributes to any sub-directory of a defined directory. You may check your permissions to see that they get applied to all sub-directories too. I'm thinking that they are not.

Thanks every one. I found my problem, which ended up being very simple after I really examined the apache error_log.
I was creating links to other files in directories with the full directory path.

/d01/apache/htdocs (is the DocumentRoot directory path)

/d01/apache/htdocs/musicdir/WTC-mem1_1.jpg (this is the full path to my file)

I only needed to create html links with a partial path. Example link: /musicdir/WTC-mem1_1.jpg

My links only need to point from below the DocumentRoot to the subdirectory file.

The error LOG is below:
[Mon May 13 12:05:22 2002] [error] [client 192.168.1.1] File does not exist: /d01/apache/htdo
cs/d01/apache/htdocs/musicdir/WTC-mem1_l.jpg

You are correct - and when you alias a dir such as cgi-bin it will act as if it were under the document root also. Glad to here you got it straightened out.
