Try checking the following:
In your VPN client software, is "use gateway on remote network" checked? This sends all the traffic through the VPN, rather than directly to the internet for web traffic (eg web pages). It may be that your office network is not letting you see the internet when you have VPN'd in, so uncheck that box.
Try using Traceroute to see how far your connection gets. It might be that your DNS resolution isn't working over the VPN (DNS converts domain names into an IP addresses).
Another thing to try - can you control another computer in the office? If so, see if that can connect to the internet. It may not be your problem at all (maybe like I once had, I could VPN into the office, SSH into a work server, but the work server couldn't see the internet even though every other computer in the office could).
I'm pulling on straws now, can't think of anything else.

Thank you for the response. I'm not using any third party sotware for my client vpn connection. Where will I find "use gateway on remote network" option?
I'm connected to the network and able to mapped to any computers or servers there. But just can't access the Internet. I'll follow through your suggestions and see what the result are.
Its an option in the Windows XP VPN client - you won't be using that if you are going router to router by VPN. May be a bit more info on how your set up is would be useful, EG hardware details
