can not access shared external hard disk

I have a WD ext hard disk connected to a pc running winXP pro via USB.
I have shared this drive on the network and allowed users to make changes to the files
However I can not access this drive from another pc, also running winXP pro.
I can see the shared drive in network places, but can not copy data to it/from it
