Trying to figure what went wrong. I get a "Naming information cannot be located: specified domain does not exist or can not be contacted" message.

System was fine yesterday, any suggestiosn?

are you doing this from the server or from a workstation?

This normally points to a DNS problem.

Troubleshooting from a DC, was off yesterday and someone tried to add a user account and since then my DC is disfunctiional. (gotta a gun!)

Can not detect anything via logs, event viewer only displays id 1054, which I have gotten 10 different remedies for it.

Could it be possible that some sort of global user or group that any/all fields were not filled in correcly? Or even another domain? Its like the DC exists but it is not seen via anything in MMC.

Are you running Small Business Server or regular Server.

If your running SBS please list your setup with how many servers and roles they perform.

That should help us a little more.

Also what is the Source for Event ID 1054?

Thanks

Nick

2003 sbs as dns server, AD with 15 xp2 workstations. seems like a DNS, though there really doesn't look like anything wrong in there. DCDIAG says there is no DC present.

getting event id 1054 in the application tab/event viewer alot. DC has been up since 04 with no problems until early this week.

gpedit has alot of fails: fail to set DC as active sysvol, fail to set fqdn as sysvol.

i'am hoping i don't have to start from scratch.

Is your dns correcting properly? Try to resolve (from nslookup) the name of the DC.
Are all the services that should run automaticly started?
