Can Norton Anti Virus Handle Japanese Characters?

I tried to scan a file name in Japanese characters using NSW2006, English version, and was surprised to get an invalid path note from Norton. I found it won't scan anything with a name in Japanese Characters or if the directory is in Japanese characters. Further when it does a system scan it does not warn that some files and directories could not be scanned. This would seem to be a major hole in the software.

Is there a known solution?
