I set up some guest mailboxes on Partner messaging. They were working--at least I left a message in one (#66) and then retrieved it. Now when I punch Intercom and dial 66 or any other guest mailbox number, the system just sits there--voice messaging does not kick in. Nor does transfer work. But I can still dial 777 and reach the mailbox, log in, etc. Due to the opacity of the Partner documentation, I'm having trouble tracking down the problem. I'd appreciate any suggestions from this most knowledgeable group! Thanks in advance!

You can create mailboxes with ANY extension number you want.

When you create a guest mailbox, setting the "phone status" as "without a phone", the Auto Attendant lets you transfer there without trying to transfer to a physical extension first, because it knows that there is no phone associated with it.

But from the Partner, the extension needs to be within the valid extension range of the phone system. Partner Plus is 10-33, Partner II is 10-57, ACS R1 & R2 is 10-49, and ACS R3 and higher is 10-57. You also need to assign Auto VMS cover to these extensions to get them to cover to voice mail when calling them.

Finally, if you create guest mailboxes outside of the valid extension range, it's a little different to call them or transfer callers there. Call or transfer to 777, wait for the VM to answer and prompt for log-in, and instead dial *8 (transfer). Then dial the guest mailbox number. If this is a transfer, quick - hang up, so the caller hears the mailbox's greeting.

Another option may be to log in to your VM box, select record/send message, then record it and send it to the mail box following the voice prompts in the personal MB. This might be easier than messing with the system to change things.

I have never tried transferring to a guest MB using voice mail transfer and then the guest mailbox number. Anyone know if that will work?

It may be possible to programma a speed dial to do a "recall, 777, pause, *8" then either another pause, or dial the guest MB number. I think speaker, and hold are the pause and the recall entry keys, play with it and see.

I remeber I programmed speed dials to do centrex transfers this way, and beleive recall will do a flash which I think will force the system to do a transfer. Someone can probably give you the info, if playing with a speed dial wont get you there.

The system will onlt allow you to use Feature-14 (transfer to VM) with valis extension numbers (10-33 or 10-49 or 10-57, depending on the processor). That's why you need to do the convoluted "Transfer-777-*8-ext. no." to get a caller there.

The "recall" in a speed dial will flash to the outside line, that is, to the telephone company for Call Waiting or Centrex transfer. You can't imbed these things into Auto Intercom buttons.

Thanks TTT,
I learn so much from you. If you are ever in wisconsin, let me know I will buy you lunch.
