We have a domain name xyz.com, so that our exchange users have the address name user@xyz.com, and we would like to setup an address for a user who does not work in the office. If that outside user has an email address of his own from an ISP, such as outsider@isp.com, and we want to tell clients to send him email at outsider@xyz.com, is there a way to have exchange forward any mail addressed to outsider@xyz.com to go to outsider@isp.com without the sender knowing this? In otherwords we want it to appear to people outside the office that this individual is part of our company even though we don't really have a mailbox for him. The alternative is to create the user in our network and have a way for him to access a real box called outsider@xyz.com, presumably via citrix, RAS or some other method.
Thanks for any ideas.

well, you'll need to create the "internal" address (even though noone really needs to log into it) as a regular AD user, and the external address as a Contact object. Then, in the properties of the AD user account, on the Exchange General tab, you set the Forwarding recipient as the Contact account.

To redirect Exchange 2000 email to an external address, perform the following steps:

Start the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in (go to Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, and click "Active Directory Users and Computers").
Right-click inside the Users folder (or the Domain Controllers folder, if you use organizational units--OUs) and select New, Contact.
Provide a name for the contact and click Next. (For this name, I prefer to use the external email address to which I plan to forward mail so that I can distinguish it from other contact names, and I copy this name to the Display Name box.)
From the next window, click Modify, choose SMTP Address, enter the external email address, and click OK.
Click Next to proceed to the review window, then click Finish.
Locate and double-click the user account from which you want to forward mail.
Select the Exchange General tab and click the Delivery Options button.
In the Forwarding address section, select the "Forward to" radio button and click Modify.
Locate the contact that you just created and click OK.
Select the "Deliver message to both forwarding address and mailbox" check box if you want to maintain a copy of each email message on the server.
Click OK twice to exit all configuration screens.
