Hi there guys,

We are thinking seriously on Migrate from Betreive to SQL or PSQL. I need information on what is the best solutios for this and whether Macola can work with SQL. Or if Macola can work with PSQL only.

Because we are having security issues with the current DB engine and some other troubles like corrupntion's DDF file we think that the majority of issues can be solved with a SQL or PSQL.

Beside, I aolso need tho know who I need to talk, Macola or Pervasive properly, if it is possible.

I will appreciate all the information about.

Betreive 6.5
Macola 7.5.103

Humberto,
Macola (Exact) has a version that runs on a MS SQL platform. Your Macola reseller should be able to tell you about this. In the event that you do not have a reseller nearby, I will be glad to talk to you about it.

You should, however, take you Pervasive up to P.SQL 2000. This would be the first step. You would have to do this anyway to prepare for conversion from the Pervasive platform to the SQL platform.

The conversion is a fairly big job, too big to deal with on a message board...

I agree. Going to P.SQL will not solve your security concerns but will be a required step to get to the sql conversion.

This is handled by our company as about a 3 day engagement depending on the size of the data, cleanliness of the data, number of reports to convert etc etc etc.

Check out the advertisement at the top of this forum if you have any questions.

Just an FYI: if you use your network security to restrict access to Macola btr files, you can maintain db security on a pervasive server. I have a number of clients who have their payroll files, for example, restricted to users who have tools such as access, ms query & crystal on their machines. They can see that the tables exist, but they cannot open them. When converting to SQL from btrieve, macola always requires that you be on the most current version of the software to get the platform conversion utility. I'm not sure if it is available for 7.6.200 as yet, but I have converted using 7.6.100a successfully. If you own many Macola modules, it is not unrealistic to budget 70-100 hours for sql conversion including a preliminary conversion to test the results, data cleanup, report conversion, etc.
