Hi All,
Can LAE file be an authentication source for ReportNet?
Scenario:
I have ReportNet running currently with anonymous access set to true. But, need to implement security mechanism while rolling out the reports into live environment.

There are also some PowerPlay cubes which need to be accessed via Cognos Connection.

So, can I have the LAE file of Series 7 act as the security authenticator for ReportNet too...?

Thanks

Not unless you load the lae file into a directory server. There is no mechanism available in RN to read an lae file. Keep in mind, that lae files are NOT supported in production environments, so you may want to consider loading the file into a directory server.

Thank you flex...

One more query:
Suppose I do the following till the Active Directory is set up:
a)Authenticate users against NTLM namespace in ReportNet
b)Add the same list of users in .lae file for PowerPlay and assign privileges
Then can I avoid re-entering of user credentials when accessing cubes on Upfront through Cognos Connection…?

Thanks,

No, because technically they would be two seperate lists of users in the RN content store. Each user is stored in the content store with a unique CAMID, which contains the namespace name. You would need two seperate namespaces, 1 for NTLM, the other for Upfront.

Hi flex,
Thanks again...

any idea how can I integrate ReportNet & Upfront(PowerPlay) without using Directory Server...?

Regards,

There would be no real integration, but here is what you could do. Determine what the URL's are for yoru reports and then create a URL link in both portals that relate to the reports. You will be prompted howver to gain access to the cross product report, but at least you can share a portal.

You could always just install Netscape or IPlanet directory server, load the lae file (until your AD domain is ready) and not have to worry about this anymore. ;)

Hi Flex,
If I install IPlanet on a Windows server, do I have to create a new domain..?

No. Just make sure that the primary domain suffix on your pc is set correctly.
