hi guys,
I am a beginner in NT i hva einstalled a proxy (WINGATE) on that machine. Can i use use it in the same as a database for other different software, and user may loging too as well.
thanks in advance

Take a deep breath and tell us your problem again. Start by telling us what server, and what applications you wish to run. :)
The Geek

Dont be afraid to share what you know. Thanks MrGeek,
they installed a proxy server for me, for internet purposes it is wingate standard. I know nothingh about microsoft products, i am in the Solaris and unix field. I noticed that the server is only used to that purpose, as a proxy. I was asking how to make a directory that contains anydata be accessesed from users that i select. that's most of it. thanks alot for your care.

Best Reagrds

Ahh are we talking shares? For example,

You have 3 files called x, y, z.

You make a folder called share

You place x, y, z in the folder called share.

You want mary, john, tom to have access to these files?

If this is the scenario, let me know :)
The Geek

Dont be afraid to share what you know. Hehe cool, Linux (Unix) is not that different. In fact unless you are using command line, the GUI share and permissions are much the same. Ok here goes.

1. Make a folder
2. Place your files in the folder
3. Right click the folder and go to properties.
4. Share the folder (now you have two choices, either leave the default group everyone intact with full control and then assign permissions at the folder level, or remove everyone and add only the users or groups)

5. Using either the everyone group or selected users, add them to the folder. Remember one is for share access and the other is what they can do when they have access :)

6. Go get Mark Minasi book called "Mastering Windows NT Server 4.0"

If I need to be more specific let me know :)
The Geek

Dont be afraid to share what you know. Thanks Geek :)))))) It was very helpfull from you, i did that following your instructions, it was perfect, now i just have to do more testing and research, after that i feel that NT is easy. I was able to access that from my remote pc. thanks for your kind support, now i can take a deep breath :)))) bye
