Or any DNS at all?

I always have to ping a domain to get the IP for NTP or SMTP, and this is kind of stupid since there is a tab to input the DNS servers in.

I use 8.8.8.8 as DNS server, an IP route needs to be in place to get there and the resolved address and I use uk.pool.ntp.org and it's never failed :)

There is a tab in system named "DNS", enter the IP adress(es) of the local DNS server or (not recommended) use 8.8.8.8 and 4.4.4.4.
Have a IP route to the local internet gateway.
Then IP Office can resolve DNS names when the above setup is correct.

Every LAN has a local NTP server like a domain controller, the DHCP server, a DNS server or the local gateway router, use that instead of a internet NTP server.
You can determine if there is a NTP server on your PC, left click on the clock in the system tray, select "Adjust Time/Date", then select "Internet Time" > "Change settings" and enter a IP Addres of one of the above, click on "Update now".
You'll get a message wether the command was succesfull or not.

I knew you would know that but that is what I always do and it has never failed.
This is maybe known as well : you can enter multiple time server DNS names or IP Addresses or a mix of that separated with a space.
Did you use monitor to see what happens?

I've been doing it for years and I've never seen DNS not work, you've never had it work. It must be something you're doing that's fundamentally wrong :)

Yes, I use smtp.tools.sky.com at home to send my voicemails to email using embedded and also to send any system alarms :)

Indeed, depending on the service contract we use smtp to inform us in case of a disruption.

You're sure your ISP allows the DNS you put in?
(8.8.8.8 is blocked on my provider...Think I even proved that to Andy once [smile])

Kind regards

Gunnar

@ Amriddle
I put one in always. I like to see the non maintenance customers getting ready to call us [smile].

You lose, Carl Miller.

DNS won't work if it cannot be reached.
do you have a working IP route?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Of course I have a working IP route. If I put IPs for NTP and SMTP, everything works fine. Problem is NTP IP will change from time to time; SMTP is less of a problem but still the fact that IT DOESN'T work like the aforementioned platforms is driving me nuts.

As previously advised It does work & therefore you must have something wrong

many wise heads have made suggestions on what to check
unfortunately if you cannot provide any any information beyond "of cours its is set" then we cant help much further.

I suggest you use system monitor to see what is happening when the IPO tries to do its DNS lookup

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear
