Can I use wireless in this situation?

The powers that be are taking my server room so I have to move all the servers across the building into my office. That part I don't mind. It's the 19 cables I have to run that I do mind. So is there anyway I can use a wireless hub or switch on one end for those 19 connections and run a wireless hub or switch on this end reliably, or should I just run the cable? There are two concrete walls that stand between here and there if it makes a difference. If so, which products should I use?

Thanks,

Jeff Jeff Elliott, MCP

It don't sound like you would be able to reliably do so. you could however run one cable instead of 19. it may have to be fiber but you could do it. it depends on the data traffic and ethernet standard being used. if it's just simple workstations then you can patch them to a switch/hub on some kind of above celling rack and run a cat5 cable to your office to connect the two. i've seen it done in the past and wondered "why the hell?!?!" but I guess if I didn't feel like doing it (i'm lazy)or it would be hard, i would probably do the same thing. anyway it would cost more money to set-up the wireless points that would be needed to penetrate all the crap. well, i guess that would depend on the distance of the run. either way i've never seen any wireless hubs/routers or AP units that would go through two concrete walls and still be relaible.

hope it helps. good luck, cable monkey. lol

first I realy prefer a single gig fiber connecting a switch in your office to you former server room, but that is me.

second, wireless CAN be found to pass that kind of volume reliablely without FCC licences, but be sitting down when you check the prices.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
