Can I use two mail servers with 1 domain

Can I use two mail servers at different sites with different IP Addresses with 1 domain? The main reason I want to do this is I want the 1st mail server to just handle regular user accounts and the 2nd mail server to just handle special accounts (for employees only). While the domain name is the name for both accounts. Thanks a lot in advanced for all the help :)

HAve different host names for the two machines and a same domain name.
Do not forget to have the DNS (MX) entries for both of the machines.
