I have Windows Info Server that does not have Oracle software loaded on it.

I would like to read data on this Info Server from an Oracle 9i database that is located on another Server.

Do I need some sort of Oracle software or Oracle loaded on the Info Server to show the Oracle Database that is located on another server??

I was thinking of exporting the Oracle data (2 tables with around 5 MB of info) to an Access 2000 Database and then transfering the Access Database file to the Info Server which does have Access database. That way I could build the Read only form in Access. The transfer would be only once a day.

Please advise the best way to do this because I assume my Access transfer idea is not the most efficient way.

Evergrean,

There are myriad methods to achieve your objectives (without requiring Oracle on the client machine), but there are not enough specifics in your specifications, above.

There are many applications that reside on the client machine, then access Oracle on a backend connection. But we cannot give reliable advice without our understanding more about your environment and the software options you possess on your non-Oracle client machines.

The environment is I have 50 Windows workstations that do not have Browsers. They can connect to the Info Server or directly to the Oracle Database. I want to build one form only to be used for reading only the database.

I assumed I would have to put the form on a Info server or the workstations can connect directly to the database?

Just not sure how this works or what GUI I can use because in the past I always used a Server Side Web language to do this but these workstations dont have Browsers.

Have you considered an ODBC connection between Oracle and Access evergrean100?

Thanks, I like that idea. I assume having an ODBC connection on my Access 2000 Database on the Info server will not have any locking issues because we are dealing with more robust Oracle Database?

If the transfer would be only once per day as you suggest, presumably you could schedule it for a quiet period?
