Can anyone answer my question?

We have an existing SQL server that I need to move over to another domain. I originally created a new server and was going to perform a simple backup and restore over to the new domain, but circumstances are making this option non viable, I need to move it via System Properties)

I cant seem to find any info on the web regarding this, and I am nervous that things will not work if I just go ahead and do it.

We are using SQL authentication. (If we are using Windows Auth what are the implications?)

Thank-you in advance.

I've never moved my SQL Server from one domain to another, so I really can't help with that. Except to say that I would stop SQL Services and move the files (.mdf/.ldf) to the new location. This would mean that SQL Server would already need to be installed in the new domain.

Just disconnecting it from the domain and adding it to the new domain? I'm sure you can do it. Just don't know how. I don't have a test machine to try it with. I honestly don't see why it would be a problem. Just stop the services, change the machine information, restart the services. You would have to re-register it in Enterprise Manager and change any applications ODBC connection, that connect to SQL Server.

The issue about trusted authentication: are your user's machines on the same domain as SQL Server will be? If so, you could use trusted accounts (Windows Authentication).
