Howdy,

My e-mail server is getting killed by the number of processes running my e-mail scanning software. I use Sophos anti-virus software with Mimedefang (e-mail scanning filter) and a command line utility to sweep all incoming and outgoing e-mail messages. Sometimes the sweep process takes upwards of 55 per cent of the CPU's usage.

This server is underpowered, and I am adding a second CPU, but until then, how can I do this? And is this a good or bad idea?

Thanks

You might try the nice command with your command line utility, i.e.
nice -10 myutility

Use Sophos with Mailscanner software
Mailscanner conf files have all the option to
control sophos av searches. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
