My girlfriend accidentaly overwrote an entire folder of digital camera images. Apparently her camera began naming files the same name as ones taken in the past and when she dragged them to the digital camera folder she inadvertantly overwrote the older files. Is there a program or method to go back in time for the file to bring it to the version that existed before the new file overwrote on it? Basicly we had some pictures from about a week ago and then the camera recycled its file naming system or somthing creating files that are different images but having the same name as the older files. So now the are gone and she's heartbroken. Any hope for these files to come back?

Windows doesn't overwrite files. It creates a new file and then marks the old one for reuse. The old photos may still be on your computer if you haven't used it too much since the incident. Google for DiskInvestigator. It will show you the files that are still available for restoring. Don't install it on the same partition or you could destroy the images you are trying to find.

has a great free flash memory .jpg recovery utility. It found over 4-year old pics, some cut in half, some fragments etc., you will be surprised what you will find!
