currently running networker 7.4.4 on AIX 5.2 with clients AIX, windows, and vmware VCB's.

have a mandate from above to start renaming servers.
is there a way to rename a current client index? or do we need to buy more licenses for the new named clients?

Hello,

the index name is the same than the client name.

Renaming client has a step where you rename index.

Take a look at the NetWorker Administration Guide, (chapter on NetWorker Client Management/Client Configuration)

Hello,

if you want to rename a client you need to delete every client resource first, BUT: you should note the client ID somewhere (just copy and paste it to a text file) before you do that. Create a new client and enter the client ID - the client with the index will be renamed.

don't forget to rename indices before re-creating the client... as said in the manual :)
