Can I Perform a Grouping on a Main Report using Subreport Values?

I have a main report and a Subreport which is included in the main report. I pass parameters from the main report and get values from the subreport using a Sharedvariable.
--Till this it works fine.
Now i want to do a grouping on the main report using the Sharedvariable.

How do i do this?
I am using Crystal 8.5

Shared variables are evaluated after the grouping has been established for the printing of a report. So, you cannot group on shared variables. Malcolm Wynden

if i group on the sharedvariable i get an error
"Group specified on a non-recurring field"

Note:
This sharedvariable gets data from the subreport
