Hello group,

I have a HugeMongous Database, 100 Gigs, with a 3.5 gig transaction log file, currently they are on two separate hard drives, but the drive that the transaction log is on, is Suspect, and may be failing. can I move the transaction log to another drive? if so How?

Can I just detach the database, move the file and re-attach?

thanks in advance

Yes you can move it.
Yes, you detach it, move it, and then attach it giving the new location.

Why is your t-log so big? Are you doing regular backups of the log? Are you doing any backups?

The t-log is big because it wont truncate. When I try to truncate it, it GROWs, not shrinks, which is why we are looking at the drive. It has been a problem in the past, and its a Raid Array, we have gotten I/O write errors when we try to backup to that drive. So we back up to another drive and it works. I have tried optimizing the database, and letting it auto shrink, but that has been running for a whole day now, so we are worried that there is something wrong with the drive.
