Can I make the source of a control on a report a Query?

Hi

I have a report whereby one of the fields needs to be the sum of a number of records in a table linked by a common key.

Can I make the source of a field a query and if so what notation do i use?

Any help is as always greatly appreciated.

To explain a little further

My report has headings

<res id> <Meeting Room> <From> <to> <Room Cost> <Catering Cost>

All the fields except <Catering cost> come directly from the query that the report is based on but the catering cost comes from a separate invoice table where i need to sum all the rows that have the same id as <res id>. Whats the best way to achieve this?
