Can I make category list generate Navigator pane TOC?

We are creating multi-category databases with links in the Navigator pane to each category. We are doing this manually, although we suspect we should be able to set up Notes to do so automatically. In other words, when we create categories for documents, is there a way to make all categories automatically show up in the Navigator pane like a table of contents where each listing, when clicked on, goes to the listed category? I would think this would happen by default.

I think you can. Why not set the links as computed, and associate some function/script to it.
