Can I make an events list show events from the past?

We have a need/desire for a list that generally behaves like an Event list, but will show us not only upcoming events, but recent past ones as well.

We want this list for brown bag lunch type meetings where we can post the slide deck or Webex recording after the fact.

By default the regular Event List will only show Upcoming Events when the list is inserted as a webpart on a site's front page.

I've considered using a custom list from scratch, but I can't seem to get it to display in a manner that otherwise looks like an event list.

Any ideas, thoughts on what I might be missing?

Hello,

You can use views to be able change the "behaviour" of an envents list. Out-of-the-box you have a view All Events, if you apply that one it will show all events. If that is not what you are looking for try creating your own view.
If you are displaying the Events list as webpart you have to apply the view there aswell

So now that I have played with it some more, and still not getting what I would really like to have... Perhaps I just CAN'T get what I want...

What I would like is a "Summary View" that also shows past events.

The summary view, for review, shows upcoming events in a two line format:

[Date Time] [Name]
[Description]

Any other view is basically just a table. <blech>

Am I treading into the territory of editing the webpart with Frontpage? That's not something I really want to start. If have to live with the tabular view, then so be it I guess.
