I am shopping for some ideas on a project. I have a small usb scanner that I would like to make wireless. Is this possible with some kind of bluetooth adapter? Has anyone done this and if so how?

I doubt its possible to turn a Scanner Wireless, as you would need the Scanner to actually recognize it has a wireless adapter attached to it, and then make use of it. I really don't think such actions are coded into the Scanner's controller chip. If at all possible you'd have to create your own Chip, and add it to the existing scanner chip. You would then also have to create software that can send and receive requests to and from the scanner via the Wireless device.

Don't know how hard it could be, but it certainly wont be as easy as just plugging a USB wireless adapter into the USB port on the scanner.

Ignorance is not necessarily Bliss, case in point:
Unknown has caused an Unknown Error on Unknown and must be shutdown to prevent damage to Unknown.

You can get USB to wireless or bluetooth adapters for printers but not scanners that I know of (yet!).

Actually - what would you want this for as the scanner needs to be physically near the PC just to operate it? You wouldn't want to have to get up and walk to a scanner just to move the paper a bit!

This is a sheet fed scanner that will be used by more than one user to scan Insurance cards, refferals and other patient documents. I want it to be centrally located becvause of the workflow. It does not need to be near the PC running it because the users RDP into the PC to access the Images.

Honestly, for the price vs future headaches, it may be worth while looking at buying a network scanner which is designed for the job out of the box. Especially if this is going to turn into a "mission critical" piece of equipment.
That said, check out See what they have to offer....
