Hi, there:

I am doing full backups on Friday night. After that I would like to make a copy of it and send it to the off-site for storage. Is there a way to make a duplicate copy of the media? I don't want to do another full backup. I am using HP SureStore DLT tape library 2/20(has two drives)connected to Arcserve2000 backup server.

Thanks,

Use the TAPECOPY program that comes with ARCServeIT. It is located in the main arcserve directory.

The source and destination tapes need to be selected by group, so you need to have at least two groups.

The syntax is something like this: tapecopy -sGROUP1 -dGROUP2 -t(TAPE NAME) -b. This will copy TAPE NAME from GROUP1 to a blank tape in GROUP2 giving is the same name. tapecopy -sGROUP1 -dGROUP2 -t(TAPE NAME) -c(NEW TAPE NAME) -a. This will copy TAPE NAME form GROUP1 to NEW TAPE NAME in GROUP2. The -a appends the session info to NEW TAPE NAME. Without the -a, NEW TAPE NAME will be overwritten with TAPE NAME.

There are many more switches to this program, it is pretty powerful, but I like to keep it simple, less to go wrong.

Hope this works for you.

There is an Arcserve RAID option that will allow you to define the drives in the library as a RAID-1 set. This allows the backup job to write to two tapes in real-time. The advantage is no time spent waiting for a lengthy tape-copy process. You can also use the RAID option in RAID-5 mode, very good with a SAN for high performance. Jim P. Ames

Don't suppose you happen to know if you can use this in a library with 4 drives to pair off just two drives, as we sometimes need to run threee simultaneous jobs - also, once installed can it be switched on and off whenever you want?

I use the RAID option....Raid 0 on the weekends for 2 copies of full and Raid 1 for the daily incrementals. But to switch between the raids and single drives (i have 2, one per library) you must run device configuration. That can take up to 20 mins unless i use the barcodes....then only five mins.
