I have a SQL2000 installation running on Win2000Adv.

The system is setup as an MSCS failover cluster with a clustered SQL install on 2 nodes. These nodes are attached to a primary external disk array, which forms the cluster drive (X:). There is also a secondary external disk array which is used to logship to for backup/recovery purposes.

When we set this up we had problems getting logshipping working, as the Y: drive wasn't visible as a backup device in the dropdown list. I had to make Y: a dependent startup for the cluster SQL Server before it was visible.

My question is, the second array (Y:) now needs to be moved to a different location - will it be possible for me to logship across a WAN link to a mapped network drive which isn't part of the cluster that the SQL database is a part of ?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA.

NOt sure about the cluster, but we log ship across a 512k line with a fairly large db (actually 2 large ones every 5 minutes, 4 smaller ones every hour). Depending on what else is being used on the WAN should be OK, the problem is with the initial snapshot and setup. We had to do this during off hours, take server down, get a snapshot of the db, zip across the WAN and then setup log ship. One warning, make sure your ldf file is small, the initial log file created will be the ldf file, even with not activity.
