Hi Folks
I am preparing to upgrade from Arcserve 11.1 to 12.5.
I have been using a DAT72 drive on our server but have purchased a Quantum LTO3 to use for future backups after the upgrade. I have done this because the number of DAT72 tapes used has reached 8 for a full backup and it takes 24hrs to complete a full backup of c. 315GB.
What I would like to know is can I chain the DAT72 and the LTO3 together? So I would have: the server -> LTO3 -> DAT72 -> terminated
This way I can (hopefully) restore data from the (redundant) DAT72 tapes if required.
What I don't know is if this will affect the speed at which data can be written to the LTO3 tapes. The whole point of purchasing the LTO3 is so that I can do a complete backup overnight without the need to manually change the tapes.
Are there anything else I need to consider? I don't really know much about this. I've only had one device attached to the SCSI card on the server.
Any help will be gratefully received.
Thanks
Mark
