Hi,
I have a BCM400 and need to move a phone. Can't I just move the jumper wire to the new location and move the phone to the new location and have it work?
I used to work on Meridian systems and that always worked with them but I don't know if there is some hidden gotcha.
With the Meridian the phone got it's programming from the switch so I didn't have to move the phone.
Thanks,
C.J.

And it is the perfered way to do it.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

For digital phones, the lines are hardwired in the system and the DSM modules. If you moved the wire, you will be assign a new line number ---> new DN.

Floor Outlet
------------- -------------- ==1 || 1
BCM / DSM |--- |Patch Pannel | ==2 <----|| 2 <-- Phone
------------- -------------- ==3 || 3

In the above diagram, the phone is connected to floor outlet# 2, which is patched in port# 2 of the patch pannel for the DSM16/DSM32.

You can move the phone around the office, but you have to make sure that the floor outle point where you connect you phone to have to patch to the original port on the patch pannel (in this example #2), otherwise you will get a new DN for you phone.

The other way to get around this is to rename the new DN into the old DN and change the received number for the target line assigned to this new DN.

Hope this helps.

Doing DN renumbering becomes a record keeping nightmare. and if you don't keep records and have to replace the BCM nothing will match up.
