Hi,

I am having one version of Oracle(8.1.6) on my RS6000(AIX 4.3.3) server with 6 CPU's and 4 GB RAM.However,a new project requires new version of oracle(8.1.7) on the same server. Is it possible to install two versions of oracle on same server? If yes, then what all precautions should I take so that both versions work properly without effecting each other.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Basically, yes. Take a look at thread186-54555 for some of the issues, particularly relating to the listener. A further search of that forum for 'versions' might also reveal more advice. Hope this helps.

Hi,
its not a problem at all. We have RS6K boxes running 12 SAP R/3 Systems with Oracle DB's.(We have mixed 32bit and 64 bit Oracle Versions on one HW).
The only thing to watch is the listener. You normaly use only one listener for all of your Databases and you should always use the highest version.
If you use 32 and 64bit Oracle Versions on one HW you should use one 64bit and one 32bit listener.
