I am looking for a new laptop for the following applications:
SQL Server 2005
VS 2005
Office 2000/2003

(I would like an XP PC, but it is hard to find now.) For a Vista PC, I wonder whether I have to buy the Vista Business.
Most laptops come with Vista Home Premium.

Thanks in advance.

Glasgow,

Thanks.

The one I want to use is SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition. According to your link, the answer is NO.

I do not like Vista anyway. I think I'd better find an XP machine.

You should purchase SQL Server Developer edition if it is for development. Developer only cost around 50.00. It has all the features of Enterprise edition.

As long as it's not XP Home or Embedded versions. Good luck on finding a new machine without Vista.

I agree that Developer edition could be a good way to go.

At the moment we are developing using SQL 2005 Express - with no real issues so far (apart from one posted in this forum) but early days. We always used to use SQL 2000 Developer because MSDE (the SQL 2000 Express equivalent) had no decent tools bundled but that's not an issue with Express where SQL Server Management Studio Express allows queries to be built and tested in the same way as Query Analyser under SQL 2000.

Dell and HP have both started offering XP preloaded again. There's been a bit of a backlash with Vista.
