Is it a good idea to install an application from the server itself. I have been installing from my workstation to the network. I have been logged on as administrator but have never installed an application from the actual Terminal Server. Is it okay to do this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.:-I

Only if you go through the ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS section of the control panel. This is the only accepted method of installing programs in Terminal Server. I have always installed apps from the server itself. No problems at all.

Correction: There is one other way of intslling applications on Terminal Server, and that is to open a cmd prompt, and type change user /install.

This is, of course a moot point, since installing applications via Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel will automatically put Terminal Server in change user /install mode.

The advantage of this method is that if your program contains user specific options, and you wish your users to open up the application with default settings, you can run the application immediately after installation and make the changes necessary.

After you have done this, close the application, return to the cmd prompt and type change user /execute.

This works for programs such as Internet Explorer, so if you wished to apply custom proxy or security settings, you could follow these guidelines to make sure your users got the defaults.

I hope this information is useful
