Hi,

I am on my work computer where I have installed Office 2002.

I don't want that to go away as it is the software that was provided to me by my company.

However, I have purchased a copy of Microsoft Office 2007, and I'd like to download that as well. I'm mainly looking for Access 2007, so I can brush up on the latest features/updates.

Can Windows XP handle having two Office versions? I don't have a partitioned drive, so everything would be running off of C:\?

Is this smart? The main thing I don't want to happen is for this new installation to wipe out my Microsoft Office 2002 Suite.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Hi... as far as I know it is not possible to run two versions of office together... registry entries I think would be the main issue (shared dlls, etc)...

I don't know if partitioning would do it either... but it is an interesting thought.

I have both Access 2003 and 2007 on my PC at work.
Also, Office 2007.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11 includes
MSACCESS.EXE

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12 includes
EXCEL.EXE
MSACCESS.EXE
WINWORD.EXE

You can have both however there are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Do not install Outlook 2007 if you have Outlook 2002. Once you use Outlook 2007 you will not be able to open your e-mails with an earlier version.

2. Word will do a configuration every time you switch between the two versions.

3. Make sure that you save any files that you will need to access in Office 2002 in 97-2003 format. Saving it as a 2007 file will make it inaccessible in earlier versions of Office.

Most importantly if this is a work computer that that is owned by the Company that you work for that you are installing Office 2007 on make sure that you have the permission of your IT department.

Hope this helps.

Incidentally, you do have my sympathy. My employer has a campus license for Office, allowing me to use it on my home PC for work purposes only. I bought the home version myself, with real cash, which I can use for domestic purposes only. Unfortunately there appears to be no way to have two licenses for Office2007 on one machine, so technically speaking, I'm illegal.

Practically and ethically, I'm not so bothered. I doubt Microsoft will be wanting to prosecute genuine paying customers (I'd be interested in the outcome anyway), and I doubt St Peter will rank it amongst my greatest failings when I show up in due course.

Thanks for pointing to the registry fix (the first link) JP!

Hi All,

Thanks for your great responses.

Since all I wanted was Access 2007, I simply de-selected everything else.

You all were right about the Outlook, so I made extra special sure I didn't install that.

Everything appears to be ok. I still have my company's Access 2002 while I can go through my tutorial on 2007.

Thanks again.
