I need to ghost my operating system from my current ide hard drive to my new pc which has a SATA drive. What do I need on my host pc to do this? an sata card or is there an ide to SATA converter cable?
Should be no problem, did this many times, from ide to sata and from sate to ide. However xp might not start up properly as the microsoft protection might say you are not using the same machine. I had success, Other people not.
Regards
The problem is most likely in the bios. In the newest Dell bios, there's a setting that defines the type of communication the motherboard should use in reference to the HDD. These choices are SATA, IDE or COMBINATION. Combination is the obvious, but if my only other choice was IDE, I'd try it.
