I am running Aloha 5.032 and 2 days ago experienced what sounds to me (from reading these forums) a corrupt trans.log file. When I came in the file server was displaying Waiting For Grind and the front of house was not functioning at all. I solved this issue by simply renaming the day before's direcory in the Aloha directory from 20070404 to simply BADDAY.

I know that I will lose all the sales data from that day now that I've renamed the directory, and I'm fine with that, but is there any way for me to pull the punch data (punch in and punch out) for those days??

Waiting to grind does not always mean a corrupt trans.log. Rename it back and then open Aloha Manager and see if it will open and grind itself. If not you can try a manual grind from the run box or the command line.
d:\aloha\bin\grind.exe /date 20070404.

No good on the manual grind. As soon as I rename the directory back to the date (as opposed to BADDAY) it automatically starts to try and grind and does not work. And now that I think about things even more, I think Aloha may have been what told me I had a bad trans.log file. Unless I'm mistaken, there was a red meesage on the FOH machines saying something to the effect of corruption in trans.log, call teck support.

Any other ideas? As I said, I can live without the sales data, but I really need the punch info for that day....

There are utilites your dealer can run on it and repair it. There are different log fixers for different versions. Find out if you can bring the BADDAY folder to their office and save a few bucks, or if you are savy enough with the software, remove the trans.log and email it to them, and put it back when done. Unless they have remote access to you, then have them dial in and fix it.

Copy the grind marker file (gnddbf30.xxx) from a previous day. This will stop the auto grind. You can try to manually grind. There is also a fixlog utility that you can run (fixlog4) that may be able to fix it if it is simple corruption. Otherwise it will have to be sent to Radiant for fixing. Once you have the folder renamed to the proper date you will at least be able to edit/add punches to get the labor.
