Can I get more 'snap' from the drawing grid snap setting? [Word 2007]

I've just 'up'graded to MS Office 2007 and I'm having a nightmare with the drawing tools. They worked just fine in my previous version of Word. I have the snap settings enabled. Shapes will snap to the grid, but with a little bit of give either way, so they don't necessarily sit neatly on the lines or against each other. This isn't snap! Have I missed a setting somewhere? Thanks in advance.

Some items of note that might help:

I noticed that Word 2007 allows you to set your grid settings and you grid lines at different values. That may account for some of the viewed discrepancy.

Check your wrapping options. I noticed that if I edit my wrap points after creating a simple object, the wrap points are not consistently on the object lines. in some cases, they bulge away from the actual line.

Also, under the ADVANCED LAYOUT for text wrapping, there are options like ALLOW OVERLAP that could interfere with the placement of an object.

One or more of these might help to fix the issue. Personally, I haven't seen a shape stray from the grid line. Hope this is helpful.

Many thanks for the reply and suggestions! I've managed to track down the problem to the 'Snap objects to other objects' option, which should be unchecked to prevent the above behaviour. Which is strange, as it sounds so useful.
