Can I generate system events using oracle triggers ??

Hi,

is there a possibility to send a system message to another non-oracle appliction using an oracle trigger ????

Any suggetions, thanks ?

There certainly is!!

I think there are two ways to do it...

The first is to use Oracle pipes, these have been around 7.3 days. You will need to have some Pro C knowledge though as you have to write a listener in Proc C to sit on the server and listen on the pipe out of Oracle for stuff to do. Inside Oracle you just build up commands and flush them down the pipe.

check out this method at and look through their arcieves for oracle pipes. its in one of the last ones.

Alternatively if your using 8.1.6 or later then I think you can do it buy using UTL_TCP. I've not done it but it I can't see why it wouldn't be possible. you could call these procedures from within your trigger. Check out how to use UTL_TCP at technet.oracle.com under documentation
