I have a piece of software that does not work as a user on Windows 2000. Is there any way I can determine where the installation writes files to and where the program writes to when it opens? I'm sure that there is some software out there that would do this but I can't seem to find it this morning.

Can I find out where a program installation writes files?

Norton Cleansweep (haven't used a recent version, but previous ones worked well) will do this for you. There are many other monitoring tools (use Google to find some). Regmon and filemon are freeware from - might be useful.
