i would like to have excel basically test a cell for data. if its empty, i would like it to write a "0" to another cell. if there is data, i would like it to write a "1" to another cell. btw, the info. in the cell is text. any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

I would format the column containg the text data to enter a zero if there is no data. Then go to the cell you want to dispaly a o for no data and a 1 for data and write an "if" statement. You do not indicate what version of Excel you are using, but this should work for most versions.

In your "other cell", use the formula:

If(test cell="",0,1)

(replace test cell with the cell designation)

yay! cakes and pies, cakes and pies!

hehehe, it worked
thank ya much
