Can I display images within a dropdown/combo box?

I have searched the net high and low for means of showing an image within a drop down list (aka: combo box).

All I've found was .NET related or java applets (I do not want to use Java Applets).

If this is not possible using <select> tag, I guess I'll just write a CSS+DHTML menu script to get the job done. I'm really hoping to find a solution to the combo box option though.

It is not possible. While Firefox will allow you to put background image to options in a select box, most browsers will ignore those backgrounds. Your only option is javascript/css custom dropdown box.
